Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds formed in Melbourne in 1983 after the breakup of The Birthday Party, with founding members Nick Cave, Mick Harvey, Blixa Bargeld, Hugo Race, and Barry Adamson.
In the 1980s they explored post-punk, blues, and gothic rock; in the 1990s they achieved commercial success with Murder Ballads (1996) including “Where the Wild Roses Grow” with Kylie Minogue. They’ve had many lineup changes (Harvey, Bargeld among those who left), while Nick Cave has remained their constant.
As of 2024 they’ve released 18 studio albums, the latest being Wild God.
