Formed in 1978 in San Francisco, California, the Dead Kennedys are easily recognized as one of the most important and iconic names in the history of punk worldwide.
From the band's name to their on- and off-stage stance, the Dead Kennedys have always been a source of controversy. In their first period of activity, between 1978 and 1986, the band released four notable and style-defining albums, full of irreverent anthems, always putting their finger on the wound and generating controversy.
Musically unmistakable and with consistently corrosive lyrics, the Dead Kennedys' songs are generally social and political in nature, satirizing various powerful public figures, established institutions, and authorities in general, as well as popular culture and all the rottenness of society, with themes that, unfortunately, remain as relevant four decades later. This combination of factors generated a cult phenomenon around them, which remains very much alive to this day. After several years of hiatus, the band returned to activity in the early 2000s with some lineup changes, but maintaining maximum intensity in their performances.
In 2025, the band announces a tour that will stop in Portugal for two shows that are expected to be intense, to say the least. Founding members East Bay Ray and Klaus Flouride front the lineup, and vocalist Ron “Skip” Greer (ex-Wynona Riders) has been singing Dead Kennedys classics since 2008. Unmissable and historic.
