The Jardins do Marquês Festival in Oeiras Valley announces, for the 2026 edition: The Stranglers. They will take the stage on July 1st, for a night celebrating five decades of one of the most influential bands in the history of British rock and promising to be one of the highlights of the summer of 2026.
The audience can expect an intense show, driven by the complicity between Jean-Jacques Burnel, an iconic figure on electric bass, and Baz Warne, long-time guitarist and vocalist. The current lineup also features Jim Macaulay on drums and Toby Hounsham on keyboards, guaranteeing a cohesive and powerful journey through six decades of classics, less obvious themes, and fan favorites.
About The Stranglers:
Formed in 1974, The Stranglers emerged in the context of the late 70s punk movement, but quickly transcended labels. Their unique sound, marked by unmistakable bass lines, dark keyboards, and a raw attitude, placed them in their own territory, where punk, new wave, and sophisticated rock coexist. In just 13 months, they released three essential albums: Rattus Norvegicus, No More Heroes, and Black and White, which gave rise to classics such as Peaches, No More Heroes, and Walk On By.
Throughout their career, the band has amassed 24 singles and 20 albums in the British Top 40, including unmissable tracks such as Golden Brown, Always The Sun, and Strange Little Girl, establishing themselves as an absolute reference in European alternative music.
After 2024, marked by 50th-anniversary celebrations, with sold-out tours around the world and emblematic shows like the one at the Royal Albert Hall, The Stranglers arrive in 2026 at a moment of full live affirmation. The album Fifty Years In Black reinforced this status by becoming the band's 20th album to enter the UK Top 40.
