The Malian group TINARIWEN returns to Portugal in April to present their new album, The Hoggar.
Porto - April 13 - Casa da Música
Lisbon - April 14 - Lisboa ao Vivo
Tinariwen returns to Portugal. The iconic Malian group returns to our country to perform two concerts in Porto and Lisbon, on April 13 and 14 respectively, to present their new album, The Hoggar, which will be released soon.
With their long desert robes and Tuareg or shesh turbans, Tinariwen is the creator of what is known as "desert blues," a musical style they themselves call "assuf," which also means "saudade" or "nostalgia" in the Tamasheq language. After trading Kalashnikovs for guitars following his participation in the 1990 Tuareg rebellion, Tinariwian is a true rock 'n' roll rebel, captivating audiences with his guttural vocals, ethereal guitar solos, and handclaps. For the past two decades, they have been regular and popular guests at festivals worldwide, where they have made a significant contribution to raising awareness of Tuareg culture and identity.
Although all members of Tinariwian hail from Mali, primarily from Kidal and the surrounding area, their music originated in Tamanrasset, in southern Algeria. The Tuareg people do not have their own state but are scattered across the desert regions of Mali, Algeria, Libya, and Niger. Ibrahim grew up in refugee camps in southern Algeria, and it was in Tamanrasset that he acquired a guitar and met other Tuareg musicians from Mali, with whom he formed a group known as Kel Tinariwian (People of the Deserts). In 1985, Ibrahim, the band's founder, and other musicians moved to a rebel camp in Toružeg, Libya, known as "Tin Mars" (March 2). There, Tinariwen became the musical voice of the movement, and his songs became very popular in the community, being distributed and recorded on cassette tapes.
Now, after three Grammy nominations, and having won in 2012 with the album Tassili (Best World Music Album), Tinariwen returns to Portugal to present his new album, "The Hoggar." Tickets for this great concert are now on sale at Symbiose.pt and usual outlets for the single price of €30.
